NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY 2014 SCHOLARSHIP

Jayde Hopkins, of Minmarama Park, an Indigenous community in Darwin, Australia, is the recipient of the 2014 John H. Lamensdorf Memorial Scholarship at NYFA!  Jayde is 16 years old and is participating in the 4 week High School Acting program in NYC.

Jayde has been active in community efforts for many years including:

.  Being involved in a short film promoting Indigenous heath and awareness and the “Us Young Women Matter” conference in Melbourne.

. Leading the MinMin Crew, a group of young people living in the Minmarama Indigenous community and participating in IMPACT, a 3 year Indigenous youth leadership program in Northern Territory and The Worlds of Work program in Melbourne in 2012.

. Being a delegate at the 2012 Pacific United Nations Youth Conference and co-founding the 1000 Voices project, a national youth-led campaign calling for the recognition of Indigenous people in the Australian Constitution

In Jayde’s words:  “As a young and emerging leader, I believe I can set myself up to be a role model for other Indigenous youth in my community.  I believe this fantastic opportunity will really help me in my journey and set me up for the rest of my life.  I really appreciate the time you have taken to read this letter and hope that you will consider me for the scholarship.”

WOW!  And she’s only 16!  We have no doubt Jayde will realize her acting dreams and much much more!
