Booker High School has awarded part of the trust’s 2014 contribution to junior Elisa Malave to attend a month long summer program at Interlochen Center for the Arts in NW Michigan.  Elisa is a phenomenal flute player and was one of a very few selected to study at the summer program.  We received the following thank you from Elisa and her parents:

I truly appreciate your thoughtful donation and I am grateful to receive such a large portion of it.  It will help me go to Interlochen and I know that experience will change both me and my flute playing.  I want it to be known that I am thankful and grateful for your help.  I cannot thank you enough.  Elisa

Thank you so much for what you have done on behalf of our daughter Elisa.  We are grateful beyond words.  Your donation will permanently and positively change her life.  We cannot thank you enough.  Sara (Elisa’s mother)

Thank you words are not enough.  You have made it possible for her to dream a dream that was not possible before.  I hope in the future I can help another child to dream an impossible dream.  Thank you again.  Carlos (Elisa’s dad)

Interlochen’s mission is to “engage and inspire people worldwide through excellence in educational, artistic and cultural programs enhancing the quality of life through the universal language of the arts.”  Exactly what John would want his trust to be sponsoring.  And, perfectly fitting as he discovered the beauty of the flute when he first heard Ian Anderson of Jethro Toll in 3rd grade!
